Espandy - Beaches

This is a small sample of beaches worth visiting within reasonable driving distance of Espandy. More information can be found on many on-line sites giving information on Murcia or from Tourist Information at Condado de Alhama.

The two nearest beaches to Espandy are Bolnuevo and Peurto de Mazarron

Bolnuevo Bolnuevo is approximately 20 minutes by car from Espandy. It is a beautiful long sandy beach – which, during the summer months, tends to be too hot to stand on bare foot. The sea is rarely rough but it tends to have some wave activity and the beach is a little steeper than that of Peurto de Mazarron.  Many prefer this as it enables swimmers to be in a reasonable depth within a short distance. Through the summer during the day there are flags to indicate if it is safe to swim and lifeguards are in attendance.

There are many restaurants and cafes and some shops in Bolnuevo. At the far end of the beach there is a roadside cafe – just across the road from the beach – which is extremely convenient for tapas, a meal or just a drink. Diagonally opposite is an excellent fish restaurant.

Bolnuevo is the home of some extraordinary natural rock structures called the erosions. These can be seen in the car park, just opposite the beach.

There is a sizeable car park just across the road from the beach and it is often possible to park on the beach.

Peurto de Mazarron

Peurto de Mazarron Peurto de Mazarron is approximately 20 minutes by car from Espandy along good roads. It has a lovely long stretch of beach and the nature of the cove and very gradual slope of the beach provides swimming conditions that are particularly safe. Through the summerd uring the day there are flags to indicate if it is safe to swim and whether lifeguards are in attendance.

There is a large promenade which runs the length of the beach. On the promenade are numerous restaurants and bars/cafes. On warm summer evenings (and there is no shortage of these) this area comes to life – people walk the promenade; shops open stalls on the pavement creating a form of street market – having a drink or meal and watching the activity can be the perfect end to a hot day.

Street parking is available, though this can be difficult during the summer, but there is an underground car park on the sea front.

Peurto de Mazarron holds an extensive market every Sunday morning with a vast array of food, household goods, clothes, shoes and so on.
